Cell Traceability

The records linking a finished pack's serial number back to the specific cell lots and test data that went into it.

The chain from serial number back to cell lot is built here or not at all.

What it means in practice

Traceability is the ability to take a serial number off a pack in the field and answer: which cell lot, from which manufacturer, tested to what result, assembled on which work order, by which process.

That chain is built at production time or not at all. It cannot be reconstructed afterwards, which is why it is a specification question rather than a support question.

The three moments it pays for itself

A field failure. One pack fails. The question that decides your exposure is whether the rest of that lot is affected. With traceability you identify precisely which units share the batch. Without it you are choosing between recalling everything and recalling nothing.

A counterfeit claim. Counterfeit and reclaimed cells are a genuine problem in this industry, and they are not detectable by looking at a finished pack. Lot-level records tied to purchase documentation are the evidence that what you bought is what you received. See cell brands and grades.

A certification audit. UN38.3 reports cover a specific design with specific cells. If a certifying body or a customer’s compliance team asks you to demonstrate that shipped packs match the tested design, traceability is the demonstration.

What good records contain

  • Cell manufacturer, model, and lot number per pack
  • Incoming inspection results — capacity and internal resistance
  • Formation cycling and binning data
  • Cell arrangement per work order
  • End-of-line test results including capacity and hipot
  • Pack serial number linking all of the above

What we provide

Each production batch ships with a cell traceability report — lot numbers and QC data — alongside BMS test certificates and capacity verification records.

Ask any supplier for a sample traceability report before ordering, not after. It takes five minutes to request and it distinguishes a factory that records this from one that will improvise a document when you eventually need one.

Working on a pack specification?

Send us the voltage, capacity, current draw, and target markets. We reply with a specification you can review rather than a price with no working shown.
