The KT-D15 is the 21700 answer to the same problem the KT-D02 solves: a standard silver-fish case that slides onto a rear-rack rail and replaces what is already on the bike. The extrusion is 110.50mm outer with 95.40mm internal section, and four lengths — 285, 325, 345 and 385mm — take 39, 52, 65 and 78 21700 cells respectively.

Those counts step in thirteens, so a 48V build runs 13S3P through 13S6P. Compared with the KT-D02’s 18650 counts at the same lengths, the KT-D15 uses roughly a quarter fewer cells for comparable energy, because each 21700 cell carries 40–50% more. Fewer cells means fewer weld joints, and weld joints are where cheap packs fail.

Which of the two silver-fish platforms to specify

Choose the KT-D02 when the programme is cost-led and 18650 cells are what the landed price supports, or when an existing pack it replaces is 18650 and you want like-for-like. Choose the KT-D15 when energy density per length matters — a shorter case for the same range — or when you want the lower joint count for a fleet application where field failures are expensive.

Neither decision is reversible after tooling, so make it with the cell quote in hand. The 18650 vs 21700 comparison sets out the cost side.

Capacity is quoted per cell, not published

As with the KT-D02, this platform is listed by cell count rather than amp-hours, because the amp-hour figure is a property of the cell you select and not of the case. Tell us the voltage platform, the length and the target range, and we come back with the cell options and the resulting capacity for each.

Connector choice — DC2.1, XLR 3-pin, or round aviation — should match whatever is already in the field on a replacement programme. CE, UN 38.3 and IEC 62133 files are issued against the built configuration, and distributors importing into the EU or US should read the importer checklist for where the compliance obligations actually land.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the KT-D15 differ from the KT-D02?

Cell format and section. The KT-D02 is an 18650-first 108 × 76mm extrusion holding 65–104 cells; the KT-D15 is a 21700-first 110.5mm extrusion holding 39–78 cells. Fewer, larger cells for a comparable or higher capacity, with fewer weld joints per pack.

Fewer cells means less capacity, surely?

Not here. A 21700 cell holds roughly 40–50% more energy than an 18650, so 78 21700 cells in 13S6P can match or beat 104 18650 cells in 13S8P. It also means two fewer parallel groups to balance and around a quarter fewer welded joints.

Does the shortest length still make sense as a product?

The 285mm build is 13S3P — 39 cells. It is a genuinely small pack, suited to short-range rental and share fleets where cost per unit and swap frequency matter more than range. For a commuter replacement, start at 345mm.
